Qiang Xu received his PhD in 1994 from Osaka University. He is the Director of AIST-Kyoto University Chemical Energy Materials Open Innovation Laboratory (ChEM-OIL), Distinguished Professor at Yangzhou University, Adjunct Professor at Kobe University/Kyoto University, and a Distinguished Honorary Professor at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University. He received the Thomson Reuters Research Front Award in 2012 and was recognized as a highly cited researcher (2014 & 2015 & 2016 & 2017) in both Chemistry and Engineering by Thomson Reuters/Clarivate Analytics. His research interests include the chemistry of nanostructured materials and their applications, especially for catalysis and energy. He has published more than 300 papers with citations > 22000 and an h-index > 80 (Web of Science). He is on a number of editorial/advisory boards of journals, including EnergyChem (Elsevier, Editor-in-Chief), Coordination Chemistry Reviews (Elsevier; Associate Editor), Chem (Cell Press), Chem-an Asian Journal (Wiley) and Advanced Sustainable Systems (Wiley). He is a fellow of the European Academy of Sciences (EurASc).

Dr. Li-Feng Chen received his PhD degree from the University of Science and Technology of China (USTC) with Prof. Shu-Hong Yu. Then, he did the postdoctoral research in the USTC and Nanyang Technological University (Singapore). After that, he joined in Prof. Xu’s group as a JSPS postdoctoral fellow in AIST. His researches mainly focus on the synthesis of carbon nanomaterials for energy storage devices.

​Dr. Liyu Chen

Dr. Liyu Chen received his BS degree in 2013 and his PhD in 2017, both from South China University of Technology under the supervision of Prof. Yingwei Li. After that, he joined Prof. Qiang Xu’s group at AIST as a post-doc in Aug, 2017. His research is centered on the design and preparation of MOF-encapsulated metal nanostructures and their applications in liquid chemical hydrogen storage.

​Dr. Gang Wang

Dr. Gang Wang was born in Wuhu, Anhui province, P.R. China, in 1988. He received his Ph.D. (2015) degrees from Institute of Crystal Materials of Shandong University, under the supervision of Prof. Baibiao Huang. Now, he is a postdoc fellow in Prof. Xu’s group, and his research interests are photocatalytic and photoelectrocatalytic water splitting and CO2 conversion based on MOFs and their composites and derivatives.



​Dr. Chun-Chao Hou

Dr. Chun-Chao Hou received his PhD in 2017 from Technical Institute of Physics and Chemistry, Chinese Academy of Sciences under the supervision of Prof. Yong Chen and Wen-Fu Fu. After that, he joined Prof. Qiang Xu’s group at AIST as a post-doc in Aug, 2017. His research is centered on the design and preparation of carbon nanomaterials based on MOFs for energy storage devices and their applications in liquid chemical hydrogen storage.

Dr. Yong-Sheng Wei received his PhD degree from MOE Key Laboratory of Bioinorganic and Synthetic Chemistry, School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, Sun Yat-Sen University in 2015 under supervision of Prof. Xiao-Ming Chen. He joined the Prof. Qiang Xu’s group at AIST as a post-doc in Aug, 2017. His research interests are electrocatalytic water splitting and CO2 conversion based on MOFs and their composites and derivatives.

Dr. Lu Zhai received her PhD degree from State Key Laboratory of Materials−Oriented Chemical Engineering and College of Chemistry & Molecular Engineering, Nanjing Tech University in 2015 under supervision of Prof. Xiao−Ming Ren. She joined the Prof. Qiang Xu’s group at AIST as a post−doc in Nov, 2017. Her research interests are the synthesis of carbon dots materials and their composites with MOFs.

Xinchun Yang obtained his PhD degree from Kobe University in 2018. He is now working with Prof. Qiang Xu at AIST as a postdoc. His research interest is focused on the study of chemical hydrogen storage.

Dr. Jinfa Chang received his PhD degree from Changchun Institute of Applied Chemistry, Chinese Academy of Sciences (CIAC, CAS) in January, 2018 under the supervision of Prof. Wei Xing. After two months research assistant in Prof. Xing’s group, he joined Prof. Qiang Xu’s group at AIST as a post-doc. His research interests are mainly focus on functional MOFs for the conversion and storage of electrochemical energy.

Dr. Hang-Yu Liu received his PhD in 2018 from Institute of Chemistry, Chinese Academy of Sciences under the supervision of Prof. Bu-Xing Han. After that, he joined Prof. Qiang Xu’s group at AIST as a post-doc in Aug, 2018. His research is centered on the design and preparation of new catalysts and their applications in chemical hydrogen storage.

Dr. Yu Wang received his B.Sc. and M.Eng. from South China University of Technology and Lanzhou University in 2012 and 2015, respectively. He then pursued his Ph.D. in inorganic chemistry with Prof. Jie-Peng ZHANG at Sun Yat-Sen University. After that, he joined Prof. Qiang Xu’s group at AIST-Kyoto University ChEM-OIL as a post-doc in Sept. 2019. His research interest is electrocatalysis based on MOFs and their composites and derivatives.

Lianli Zou obtained his B.S. and M.S. degree from Xiangtan University (China) and Jiangsu University (China) in 2011 and 2014, respectively. He is now pursuing his Ph.D degree in applied chemistry at Kobe university and AIST with Prof. Xu. His research focuses on the synthesis of MOF nanostructures and their applications for energy storage.

Shan Zhong obtained her B.S. and M.S. degree (under the supervision of Prof. Dapeng Cao) from Beijing University of Chemical Technology (China) in 2012 and 2015, respectively. She is now pursuing her Ph.D degree in applied chemistry at Kobe university and AIST with Prof. Xu. Her research interests are study of nanoporous materials and their functional applications.

Miao Wang obtained his B.E. degree from School of Energy and Power Engineering, Xi’an Jiaotong University in Jun. 2015. He is currently pursuing his Ph.D degree in Xi’an Jiaotong University and has joined in Prof. Qiang Xu’s group as a joint Ph.D student at September 2019 under the support of China Scholarship Council (CSC). His research interests mainly focus on advanced nanomaterials for electrocatalysis

Chao Yang obtained his B. S. degree from Hefei University of Technology in 2013 and M. S. degree (under the supervision of Prof. Hongbin Lu) from Fudan University in 2016. He is now pursuing his Ph. D degree in material science at JAIST as a CSC student. He joined Xu’s group in Apr. 2018. His research interests focus on MOF nanocomposites in energy storage and conversion.

Bing Li obtained her B.S. from Xinxiang University (China) in 2013. Her research interest is study of functional nanomaterials in applications of electrochemistry.
